Gulf Flights Disrupted in October 2026: EASA Warning, Cancellations, and What Expats Should Do

EASA has two active Conflict Zone Information Bulletins — CZIB-2026-07R3 (Gulf waters: Bahrain, Kuwait, Doha, Emirates FIRs) and CZIB-2026-09-R1 (Saudi/Jeddah FIR) — both valid to 16 November 2026. US missions in 12 West Asia locations issued alerts on 18 October 2026 warning of possible flight cancellations and airspace closures. Riyadh’s King Khalid Airport reopened on 18 October but under NOTAM restrictions (prior GACA permission). Emirates, Flydubai, Qatar Airways, Air Arabia, Gulf Air and Oman Air cancelled or reduced services to Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Abha through 19–24 October; Qatar Airways offered free date changes to 31 October 2026; UAE’s GCAA suspended Iranian airline services. What it means for you: confirm with the airline, not aggregators; keep exit/re-entry and iqama expiry dates in view if stuck outside the Kingdom; EU261 compensation is unlikely (extraordinary circumstances) but rebooking, refunds and care apply. What this does NOT change: EASA bulletins are advisories, NOT legal airspace closures, and visas are unaffected — do not use ‘closed skies’ framing.
