Qatar End-of-Service Gratuity & Expat Money Rights

Qatar’s gratuity rule is the simplest in the Gulf: a flat 21 days’ basic wage per year, every year, no tiers, no cap, no resignation cut. It is also one of the most lied-about — invented “2026 tiered rates” and fake caps rank on page 1. Here is what Article 54 of Law No. 14 of 2004 actually says.

The one-minute version

  • Formula: minimum 21 days’ basic wage per year of service — flat, not tiered.
  • Wage basis: last basic wage; allowances excluded; employer debts deductible.
  • Cap: none in the statute.
  • Minimum: 1 full year of continuous service.
  • Resignation: no reduction. Article 54 doesn’t distinguish by reason for leaving.

Beware invented “2026 rules”

Several ranking pages promote “2026 New Rules” tiered tables (28 days, 35 days per year). The official Al Meezan legislation database — Qatar’s own statute portal — still publishes Article 54 with the flat 21-days-per-year minimum. Until an official amendment appears in Al Meezan, treat tiered “2026” tables as invented. The same goes for the “two-year cap” some sites claim: it has no statutory basis.

Frequently asked questions

How is end-of-service gratuity calculated in Qatar?

Under Article 54 of Qatar’s Labour Law (Law No. 14 of 2004), workers earn a minimum of 21 days’ basic wage for every year of service — a flat rate, not tiered. The basis is the last basic wage, and there is no statutory cap.

Is there a cap on Qatar end-of-service gratuity?

No. Article 54 sets no maximum cap. Claims of a “two-year cap” found on some websites have no basis in the statute.

Does resigning reduce Qatar gratuity?

No. Article 54 does not tie the gratuity to the reason for leaving, so resignation does not reduce it. Only summary dismissal for serious misconduct forfeits the benefit.

Did Qatar change gratuity rules in 2026?

Some websites promote fabricated “2026 tiered rates” (28/35 days). Article 54 as published in Qatar’s official Al Meezan legislation database still states the flat 21-days-per-year minimum. Treat invented tier tables with skepticism.
