The short answer: resigning normally does NOT get you banned.
A UAE “labour ban” is a one-year block on MOHRE issuing you a new work permit. That is all it is. It is not a travel ban, not a deportation order, and not a criminal record — and it does not by itself cancel money you are already owed. Your gratuity and final dues are a separate question, settled under the gratuity rules, not by the ban.
The only three cases the official page lists:
- You end the contract during probation, and your employer had NOT broken its side of the contract. (If the employer did breach, this ground does not apply on the page’s own wording.)
- A “work abandonment” report against you is proven valid.
- Your work permit at a fictitious establishment is cancelled.
If none of those three fits your case, the official page gives no basis for a one-year ban — including an ordinary resignation after probation with proper notice. Notice in a normal private-sector contract is 30 to 90 days under the current law.
The exemptions — read them narrowly.
The official page exempts four groups, but only from the ban in the proven abandonment case: workers on a family residence visa, workers applying for a new permit with the same establishment, workers with professional skill or knowledge the UAE requires, and Golden Visa holders. Do not assume these exemptions cover the probation or fictitious-establishment cases — the page does not say that.
What to do if a ban shows up on your file:
- Ask what ground it was put under, in writing. The answer changes everything: a probation case, an abandonment case, and a fictitious-establishment case are challenged differently.
- Do not sign anything that admits abandonment if it is not true, and keep your contract, payslips and any messages showing you were in contact with your employer. Abandonment turns on the employer genuinely being unable to reach you.
- Check the position through MOHRE’s official channels before paying anyone who promises to “remove” a ban. There is no verified shortcut in the official page.
- Separately, before you sign a visa-cancellation form, check that your final salary, unused leave and gratuity figures are right — signing a settlement you disagree with is a different, and harder to undo, problem than the ban itself.
What this guide does not claim: it does not give a removal timeline or a guaranteed way to lift a ban, because the official page states the grounds and the exemptions but no removal procedure. Anyone promising a fixed removal time is selling you something the official page does not support.
