Bahrain’s New Second-Job Rule: Work for Another Employer for 3 Months

Bahrain now allows an expat worker to work for a second employer for up to three months — a major change for workers whose main job has gone quiet or who want to test a better offer. Keep the paperwork clean: the second job must be properly documented, your primary employment status must stay valid, and the three-month window must be respected, because overstaying it or working undocumented puts your residency at risk.

Your gratuity underneath it all still follows Law 36/2012, Article 116: half a month’s wage per year for the first three years, then one full month per year after, based on basic wage plus social allowance, with no cap and no resignation reduction. One complication to know: for service spanning March 2024, the pre-March 2024 portion is the employer’s responsibility and the post-March 2024 portion falls under the SIO system — so if your service crosses that date, your final settlement has two payers, not one.
