Domestic Worker Gratuity Calculator (Saudi Arabia)
Domestic workers in Saudi Arabia are not covered by the Labor Law’s end-of-service formula. Under the commonly cited Musaned regulation, a domestic worker earns one month’s wage for every four consecutive years of service with the same employer. Enter your wage and years of service below for an estimate — and read the gray areas first.
Gratuity calculator Estimate only
Enter your monthly wage in Saudi riyals and your years of continuous service with the same employer. The calculator counts full four-year blocks and shows the commonly cited gratuity.
TEST CASES (hand-verified 2026-10-09, rule: 1 month's wage per 4 consecutive years, full blocks only): 1. wage=1500, years=8 -> blocks=2, gratuity=SAR 3,000.00, remainder 0.0 yr. The one-month-per-4-years rule
Gratuity = monthly wage × (completed 4-year blocks of consecutive service with the same employer)
Example: 8 years of continuous service → 2 blocks → 2 months’ wages. 12 years → 3 months’ wages.
This is the commonly cited rule from guides and recruitment materials describing the domestic workers regulation. It is distinct from the Labor Law’s Article 84 formula (half a month per year for the first five years, one month per year after) — that formula does not apply to domestic workers. Verify the current regulation on musaned.com.sa.
Who is covered
The domestic workers regulation covers workers employed in private households, commonly described as including:
| Covered role | Typical example |
|---|---|
| Housemaid / housekeeper | Cleaning, laundry, household care |
| House driver | Private family driver |
| Cook | Household cooking |
| Gardener | Garden and grounds care |
| Guard | Household security guard |
| Nanny / caregiver | Child or elderly care in the home |
These workers are excluded from the Saudi Labor Law (Royal Decree M/51) and its end-of-service rules. Their contracts run through the Musaned platform. For the private-sector formula instead, see the EOSB calculator.
The Musaned channel
- Contract. Your domestic worker contract — including wage and service terms — is issued through Musaned. Keep your copy.
- Verification. Check the current domestic workers regulation and your contract terms on musaned.com.sa.
- Complaints. Musaned is the official channel for complaints and dispute resolution if your employer refuses to pay your gratuity.
- HRSD. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (hrsd.gov.sa) is the overseeing authority — keep salary-transfer records and written communication as evidence.
3 worked examples
Example 1 — housemaid, 8 years continuous service
Monthly wage SAR 1,500, 8 years with the same employer.
| Step | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Completed 4-year blocks | 8 ÷ 4 | 2 |
| Gratuity | 2 × 1,500 | SAR 3,000 |
Example 2 — house driver, 4 years
Monthly wage SAR 2,000, exactly 4 years with the same employer.
| Step | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Completed 4-year blocks | 4 ÷ 4 | 1 |
| Gratuity | 1 × 2,000 | SAR 2,000 |
Example 3 — cook, 10 years (the proration question)
Monthly wage SAR 1,200, 10 years with the same employer.
| Step | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Completed 4-year blocks | 10 ÷ 4, rounded down | 2 |
| Gratuity on full blocks | 2 × 1,200 | SAR 2,400 |
| Remaining 2 years | — | Uncertain (not clearly published) |
The remaining 2 years are the gray area: the commonly cited rule counts full blocks, and whether the leftover years are prorated is not clearly published — confirm via Musaned before accepting a settlement.
Gray areas to watch
- Partial-block proration. Not clearly published. The calculator counts full blocks only and flags the remainder.
- “Consecutive” service. The rule is commonly stated as four consecutive years with the same employer. Breaks in service and employer changes generally restart the count — the exact treatment is a question for Musaned or HRSD.
- Which wage. “One month’s wage” is commonly understood as the monthly wage in your contract. Keep your contract and salary-transfer records so the figure is documented.
- Contract terms can matter. Your written contract may state the gratuity terms explicitly — check it first, since the contract is what a dispute will start from.
Frequently asked questions
Are domestic workers covered by the Saudi Labor Law?
No. Domestic workers — housemaids, house drivers, cooks, gardeners, guards and similar roles — are explicitly excluded from the Saudi Labor Law (Royal Decree M/51). They are governed by a separate domestic workers regulation administered through the Musaned platform. The Labor Law’s Article 84/85 end-of-service formula does not apply to them.
How much end-of-service gratuity does a domestic worker get in Saudi Arabia?
The commonly cited rule is one month’s wage for every four consecutive years of service with the same employer. Four years earns one month’s wage, eight years earns two months’ wages, and so on. This figure is widely repeated in guides and recruitment materials — verify your exact entitlement in your contract and the current Musaned regulation.
Is partial service prorated — for example 6 years of service?
This is a gray area. The commonly cited rule counts full four-year blocks, but whether the remaining years are prorated is not clearly published in the sources we checked. A 6-year case could be read as one month’s wage (one full block) plus an uncertain amount for the extra 2 years. Confirm your figure through Musaned or HRSD before accepting a settlement.
Does the service have to be with the same employer?
Yes, as commonly described. The rule is stated as four consecutive years of service with the same employer. Changing employers generally restarts the count. Keep your contract and salary-transfer records, since continuous service is what the calculation is based on.
Where does a domestic worker complain about unpaid gratuity?
The Musaned platform (musaned.com.sa) is the official channel for domestic worker contracts, complaints, and dispute resolution. You can also approach the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD). Keep copies of your contract, salary transfer records, and any written communication with your employer.
Does resigning reduce a domestic worker’s gratuity?
No Article-85-style resignation tiers are commonly reported for domestic workers — that tiered system (including the rule that resignation with under two years means zero benefit) belongs to the private-sector Labor Law formula. The domestic worker rule is commonly described without those tiers, but the specifics depend on your contract and the current regulation, so verify before you act.
